A septate uterus is a birth defect that affects the shape of your uterus. It means that you have a thin wall of tissue, called the septum, that divides your uterus into two sections. The septum can be different in size and length, and it can go from the top of your uterus to your cervix or vagina. A normal uterus is a single, pear-shaped cavity. But if you have a septate uterus, you have two smaller cavities instead of one. The septum can interfere with your fertility and pregnancy. A septate uterus is also known as a uterine septum. Many people with this condition do not have any symptoms and only find out when they try to get pregnant or have repeated miscarriages. However, having a septate uterus does not mean you cannot have a healthy baby.
