How Laparoscopy Can Diagnose and Treat Endometriosis Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pain and other symptoms. Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgery that can help diagnose and treat endometriosis. Laparoscopy involves making small incisions in the abdomen and inserting a camera and surgical instruments to view and operate on the pelvic organs. Laparoscopy can confirm the presence of endometriosis by taking a tissue sample and examining it under a microscope. Laparoscopy can also remove or destroy the endometriosis tissue, depending on its location and extent. There are two main methods of laparoscopic treatment:

• Excision: Cutting out the endometriosis tissue with scissors, a laser, or a scalpel.
• Ablation: Burning or vaporizing the endometriosis tissue with heat, electricity, or radio waves.
